PCCHA Introduces the New $250,000 Limited Amateur Division at the 2005 Cutting Stakes

June 7. 2005 Presidents Letter

June 7, 2005

Dear PCCHA Members:

By now, many of you know that on May 18, 2005, your Board of Directors approved a new Aged Event Division, “THE $250,000 LIMITED AMATEUR”.

Certainly a higher dollar limit for Amateur Cutters is not a new idea, but one whose time has finally come. I’d like to share with you some of the highlights that led us to this new Division:

  1. 1. Last fall, at the Futurity, we received a petition with over 100 signatures requesting that the Association review our Aged Event Non Pro/Amateur program. It was felt that just because a person had earned $50,000 he/she was not yet equipped to compete with people with much greater earnings. Say, over $500,000.

  2. We gave the Non Pro/Amateur Committee the task to review the Aged Event program, share their findings and then make recommendations to the Board.

  3. The Committee found some eye opening statistics. Maybe the most significant being that, of 264 Non Pro contestants in 2004, 250 would have qualified as Amateurs if there were not a $50,000 earnings limit.

  4. After conducting surveys, via our News Letter, personal contact at Paso Robles and e-mails, the Committee made its’ proposals to the Board at our April meeting.

  5. After due diligence, much discussion and considerable “tweaking”, the Board settled on the $250,000 Limited Amateur Division to be implemented at the Cutting Stakes this coming October.

Full information on this exciting new division is enclosed herein.

Please rest assured that the leadership of our Association kept the best interests of the overall membership in mind while making this decision. As has been our history, the PCCHA has once again been willing to innovate and try something new that will benefit our members as a whole.

Very truly yours,
